WWI AU — Dean Winchester is an American diplomatic attaché in Vienna on the eve of the Great War, where, on the cusp of catastrophe, he meets and falls for cellist Castiel Novak. The designs of history would not be on their side, but perhaps at the end of the long, dark tunnel caked with blood and mud, there would be a light.
With perfect clarity I can still recall the moment that we met. I can still recall, as well, the moment of our parting. Every moment in between recounts like a bittersweet fairytale: sweet, for all the delight (despite our sour moments) that you brought me; bitter, for that it ever had to end. Perhaps it won’t. Perhaps I will see you again, perhaps the Lord exists still despite this Hell, and I will benefit from a miracle.
I don’t know if I believe in miracles anymore.
But, my friend, I do believe in you.
